New or Transfer Students Registration

Inter-District

INTER-DISTRICT

Inter-district transfers involve students who live outside WCCUSD boundaries but wish to attend a WCCUSD school—or WCCUSD students who want to attend school in another district. Approval requires a release from the home district and acceptance by the receiving district.

Intra-District

Intra-district transfers allow students to attend a school other than their neighborhood school within the West Contra Costa Unified School District. Families may request a transfer based on special programs, transportation needs, or family circumstances.

WCCUSD Transfers – Entering the District (Inter-district Transfer In)

Families who live outside of WCCUSD boundaries but would like their child to attend a WCCUSD school must obtain approval through an Interdistrict Transfer Request process.

Steps to Request a Transfer Into WCCUSD:

  1. Start with Your Home District

    • Visit your home school district office and request an Interdistrict Transfer Permit.

    • Your district must approve and release the student.

  2. Submit to WCCUSD

    • Once approved by your home district, submit the signed release and transfer form to the WCCUSD Transfer Office:

      WCCUSD Transfer Office
1108 Bissell Avenue, Richmond, CA 94801
      Email: [if available]
      Phone: (510) 307-4535

  3. Review and Decision by WCCUSD

    • WCCUSD reviews the request based on space availability, program capacity, attendance history, and other criteria.

    • The district will notify you in writing of its decision.

  4. Enrollment Upon Approval

    • If approved, the student may register at the approved WCCUSD school.

    • You may need to reapply each year to maintain the transfer.

Important Information:

  • Transfers are not automatic and must be approved by both districts.

  • Space in requested schools or programs is not guaranteed.

  • Supporting documents (like attendance records or IEPs) may be requested.

  • Transportation is not provided by WCCUSD for interdistrict transfer students.

WCCUSD Transfers – Leaving the District (Interdistrict Transfer Out)

Families who wish to transfer their child out of WCCUSD to attend a public school in another school district must complete an Interdistrict Transfer Request through the WCCUSD Transfer Office.

  3. Approval Process

    • WCCUSD must approve the release.

    • Then the receiving school district must approve and accept the student.

    • Each district has its own rules, space availability, and timeline.

  4. Notification
Families will receive written notification of the decision.

Important Notes:

  • Transfers are not guaranteed.

  • Reasons like relocation, specialized programs, or family hardship may be considered.

  • Annual renewal may be required.

  • If a student is already enrolled in another district with a prior approved transfer, a new transfer may be needed for continued enrollment.
